About Kalana Software Private Limited

At Kalana, we are on a mission at redefining productivity through software. We believe current solutions are outdated and bloated. We are building products that are fun – and effortless to use. The software blends in the background, allowing individuals to focus on their tasks at hand – as it should be. This sounds easier than it is – as to achieve this, one has to excel in every area of engineering & product design – from blazing fast performance, polished interactions, low energy usage & real-time, offline first sync – it’s not an easy task to achieve.

We’re looking for individuals who share this vision – and are willing to go the extra mile in order to achieve this. Moving across Swift / C++ for the right performance shouldn’t scare you – neither should ignoring SwiftUI / Auto-layout in favor of Core Graphics where there’s just no other way to squeeze in 60FPS.

About the role

You’ll be working on the iOS / macOS apps, which are at the core of the Kalana experience – and you’ll be working with some of the best engineers in this field. We have two separate tracks :

Performance / Data engineers, responsible for ensuring flawless & stable sync, data operations, logging – these are our heroes who free up all the CPU time for UI teams 😉

UI Engineers – delivering intuitive and powerful interactions, pixel-perfect UI’s which run at 60 (or 120 on iPad Pro!) FPS – always.

The core values across these roles are the same – but the way you achieve those are different. Data engineers will get excited about data structures, love getting deep in understanding how the compiler works and what makes their code fly. UI Engineers will know every glitch and trick in UIKit – and have a strong experience in building delightful and high-performance user interfaces.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for individuals who want to be at the bleeding edge of iOS / macOS Engineering. Building great software is not about finding that one great architectural solution – but squeezing that 1% extra performance 100+ times.

Willingness to go deep. Apple tutorials / best practices likely won’t cut it. You’ll constantly need to go deep in Apple SDKs, uncover hidden gems, or make a faster / better version of what’s available.

Ability to ship. Shipping is a feature. While we do lots of prototypes and research – at any given time you should be able to very quickly move to shippable code.

Product focused. Technology and architecture are beautiful. But their purpose should be to drive user value. The real beauty lies in people using & enjoying the software we ship.

Pragmatic. Yes, we’re maximalists. But sometimes, you just gotta make a shortcut to be able to ship…

Curious & Team player. You’re interested in learning the insights of other fellow team members and are an effective communicator and collaborator. While we write code individually, we ship/succeed or fail together.

Always learning. Just as improving our product is a never-ending process, so is improving our own capabilities and competencies. You should always be seeking to learn something new – and teach something to your team members.

Bonus points

You have previous experience or sound knowledge in building writing/productivity software before

You understand & work well with Objective C / C++

You have deep experience in optimizing UIKit performance

You have experience with delivering products end-to-end.
