Lecturer – Risk & Actuarial Studies

The Opportunity  

UNSW is looking for a high achieving Lecturer to join the School of Risk & Actuarial Studies. The Schools is one of the most successful risk and actuarial departments in the world, including being globally ranked #1 business school in risk, insurance, and actuarial research. It houses one of the largest and most prestigious actuarial degree programs world-wide, with students combining risk and actuarial actuarial studies with diverse fields such as commerce, economics, mathematics, and computer science. The school is closely associated with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR), and staff are actively engaged with industry and government in both teaching and research, including via contributions and membership in various local and international actuarial and pensions and superannuation associations.

A Lecturer (Level B) is expected to carry out activities to develop their scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally and to contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty.

This position is open to both Australian and international candidates   and is based at Kensington Campus- Sydney, Australia

Accountabilities 

Specific accountabilities for this position are, but not limited to:

• Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
• Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
• Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
• Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
• Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline).
• Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
• Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
• Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
