Job Overview

Postdoctoral Fellow – Gene Therapy and Vascular Biology

Postdoctoral Fellowships with Industry — University of Oxford, Medical Sciences Division

The prevalence of peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is increasing globally with 1 in 5 Australians affected. PVD carries a poor prognosis, reduced life expectancy and risk of amputation. Graft failure and restenosis in PVD is observed in 30-40% of patients within 2 years due to re-occlusion and blood clots (thrombosis).  This project aims to develop a novel cell selective gene therapeutic to prevent complications in the management of PVD.

The Opportunity

  • Fixed-term contract until the end of 2022 (with possible extension)
  • Level A: $79K – $106K base (+ 17% superannuation & leave loading)
  • Sydney, Australia based.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A) will be responsible for the conduct of experiments and analysis of data related to this program on gene therapy in vascular biology and cardiovascular research in Professor Khachigian’s Vascular Biology and Translational Research group in the Faculty of Medicine and Health https://research.unsw.edu.au/people/professor-levon-michael-khachigian.  The incumbent will be responsible for taking a leadership role in the conduct of this project, working with basic scientists and vascular surgeons, identifying opportunities for collaboration and funding and assisting the broader team with other research related duties.

The project involves a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, including but not restricted to plasmid/viral vector cloning strategies, construct purification, transfection/transduction analysis, mRNA expression analysis/RNA-seq, PCR, Western blotting, siRNA, cell culture, proliferation and migration studies, and possibly animal models of vascular disease and immunohistochemical analyses.
