Why your role matters

The successful applicant will contribute to the research effort of the School of Education, within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. Education at UNSW received the highest possible rating in the most recent Excellence in Research for Australia exercise and is the home of world leading researchers in educational psychology, special and inclusive education, educational leadership, and mathematics education.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow, working closely with Professor Kim Beswick, will conduct collaborative research in mathematics education (including as part of STEM education), and particularly on professional learning for teachers of mathematics and mathematics related affect. This position is full time and is offered with a blend of working on campus (2-3 days a week) and the remainder days working remotely.

Skills and Experiences

Level A

  • Postgraduate degree (or soon to be awarded) in mathematics education or related education field.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality research outputs, publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity in mathematics education or a related education field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate professional learning for teachers of mathematics.
  • Knowledge of equal opportunity principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews and analyse interview data.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

Level B (in addition to the above)

  • Experience in a postdoctoral position conducting research in mathematics education (including as part of STEM education), and particularly on professional learning for teachers of mathematics and mathematics related affect.
  • Strong track record of high-quality publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods for the social sciences, including experience with statistical software packages such as SPSS.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
