SBU/Department:  School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science/Department of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics

FTE: 1 fte (working 37 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Fixed term (until October 2022 in the first instance)
Salary: UH7 £34,304 pa with potential to progress to £40,927 by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Main duties and responsibilities
The researcher will use the EXOhSPEC in the laboratory and prototype on different telescopes including the Thai National Telescope and the Isaac Newton telescope. You will be developing the relevant infrastructure to support the remote deployment of EXOhSPEC. You will be working with academic staff, technical staff & students.  The project has a long-term aim to build a prototype to significantly extend the reach of precision radial velocities.
Skill and experience required
The successful candidate will have experience in research environments and be able to demonstrate strong IT skills.  You will have the ability to analyse and synthesis data and a knowledge of Python is required.  You will need experience of construction and testing of research instrumentation.  In addition, you will need an understanding of HiFLEX software or similar. You must have good communication skills, in both written and spoken English, along with excellent presentation skills.

Qualifications required
Undergraduate degree at a minimum of 2:2 (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline, or a higher qualification.  In addition, a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject or equivalent experience is also required.
