Research Assistant (Analytical Chemistry)
A Research Assistant position is currently available in the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI). NEWRI was established to address Singapore’s environmental and water challenges through our Research-Engineering-Development (RED) approach. Our researchers perform fundamental research, translate through robust Engineering to produce innovative solutions, and work with industrial and institutional partners, towards their Deployment to enhance Singapore’s global standing and attract investment.
NEWRI continuously strives to make a difference towards developing a true circular economy through efficient reuse innovations, and harnessing the value in waste. The NEWRI ecosystem comprises domains (led by five Centres of Excellence – AEBC, ECMC, EPMC, R3C, and SMTC), business development and a philanthropic initiative, an innovation cluster and an education and training unit in environmental science and engineering, that form an inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional ecosystem to provide holistic environmental engineered solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Implement, optimize, and perform analytical chemistry laboratory techniques – Analytical Chemistry (environmental sample preparation, method development for quantifying contaminants, etc.)
Conduct analysis involving established methods for LC-MS and ICP-MS
Perform data analysis and interpretation on the fate and occurrence of contaminants in the environment
Assist on the preparation of research reports, presentations, and manuscripts
Prepare SOP and risk assessment
Support existing graduate students and research staff in their research
Job Requirements
Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Environmental & Water Technology or other related science/life science disciplines with more than 1-year relevant experience
Knowledge and experience on operation, data analysis, sample preparation and method development of high-end analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC, GC, GC-MS, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS or some of these) is highly preferred
Knowledge of environmental sample preparation and method development is a plus
Highly motivated person who is able to work independently
Good communication skills & team player
Interest in research work
Highly driven, independent and resourceful
