Job Description

The Duke-NUS Centre for Computational Biology provides a nucleus for expertise in computational biology to study key questions in biomedical research.

We are currently recruiting a Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow with expertise in Computational, Statistical, or Mathematical sciences for the laboratory of Assistant Professor Lisa Tucker-Kellogg. The Tucker-Kellogg lab is a multi-disciplinary team using cutting-edge technologies to study the dynamics of cell proliferation. The race between cell proliferation and cell death is crucial for applications in wound healing (where proliferation aids healing of chronic wounds) and cancer drug resistance (where cell death is the goal).

This role involves constructing computational models with ordinary differential equations (ODEs) for studying cellular dynamics (such as proliferation, metabolism, and death) in contexts of cancer and wound healing. The selected candidate will be expected to perform duties that support the research activities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Design and carry out computational modelling research independently.
  • Communicate scientific information in the form of laboratory notebooks, oral presentations, text, figures, pseudo-code, and scientific manuscripts.
  • Perform routine duties related to research, such as data curation and making backups.
  • Give and receive technical troubleshooting, contribute to an environment of mutual feedback.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior laboratory members/researchers.
  • Maintain ethical conduct, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with safety procedures and laboratory practice agreements.

Job Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioengineering or related field, and/or Post-graduate Medical Degree, with relevant research training and experience.
  • Extensive experience with any type of computer programming.
  • Some experience with any type of computational modelling and simulation.
  • Strong skills in critical thinking and ability to explain logical reasoning.
  • Ability to make quality figures, write scientific manuscripts, and give scientific presentations.
  • Demonstrated capability of research independence progressively.
  • A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
  • Applicants with higher credentials may be considered for a more senior appointment.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
