Job Overview

Research Fellow (CSCB/LT)

Postdoctoral Fellows Programs

Job Description

The Cancer and Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) is one of five founding Signature Research Programmes at Duke-NUS Medical School. CSCB pursues disease-oriented research that moves basic science discoveries from bench to bedside.

A Research Fellow position is currently available in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Lisa Tucker-Kellogg.  The Tucker-Kellogg lab is a multi-disciplinary team using cutting-edge technologies to study the dynamics of cell proliferation. The race between cell proliferation and cell death is crucial for applications in wound healing (where proliferation aids healing of chronic wounds) and cancer drug resistance (where cell death is the goal). The selected candidate will use engineered cell line models to study the evolutionary dynamics of drug-resistant and drug-sensitive cells.

The selected candidate will be expected to perform duties that support the research activities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture, drug treatments, microscopy and molecular biology assays.
  • Communicate scientific information in the form of text, charts, images, slides, laboratory notebooks, and manuscripts.
  • Contribute to project management and provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
  • Maintain optimal experiment progress in the laboratory or in the research work undertaken.
  • Ensure compliance to safety procedures and laboratory practice agreements, conduct risk assessments and maintain ethical conduct at all times.
  • Perform laboratory management duties including procurement of laboratory consumables and management of inventory.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Bioengineering, Physiology, Life Sciences, or other Biomedical speciality, and/or Post-graduate Medical Degree, with relevant research training and experience.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology assays.
  • Demonstrated capability of research independence progressively.
  • Prior experience with assay optimisation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong skills in critical thinking and ability to explain logical reasoning.
  • Ability to make quality figures, write scientific manuscripts, and give scientific presentations.
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task, and work in collaborative teams.
  • Prefer candidates who have prior familiarity with cancer biology and/or pharmacology.
  • Applicants with higher credentials may be considered for a more senior appointment.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
