UI Engineer Job Description

The Automated Assessment team develops machine learning-based software systems that analyze tens of millions of learner exam responses each year. Our technology is unique and meaningful, providing results quickly on student performance on standardized tests. The information helps inform teaching and learning for educators, students and parents.

As a Software Developer and UI Engineer you will:

  • Design and develop new User Interfaces for our automated scoring and machine learning platforms. New UI examples include general workflow representation, new specific workflows related to Learner In Danger scoring, model performance statistics and Machine Learning Pipelines.
  • Improve our reporting input and output.
  • Migrate our existing user interfaces away from AngularJS to a more modern javascript framework.
  • Contribute to the development and visualization of machine learning (ML) pipelines.
  • Evaluate open-source and commercial UI platforms for the use, development and operation of machine learning models.
  • Work with our customer facing data science team developing visualization tools to evaluate model performance.
  • Work with ML scientists to develop UIs for developing and evaluating research prototype models and techniques.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience serving as a UX engineer / designer.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human factors, web design, information architecture, human-computer interaction, graphic design, or related is preferred, but we will consider candidates with a background in data representation and equivalent work experience.
  • Experience prototyping, testing, and mocking up UIs.
  • Experience with React.
  • A basic understanding of API development.
  • Ability to communicate with product managers, developers, testers, and data scientists in a manner that helps continuously enhance the overall usability of our internal user interfaces.
  • Graphic design skills/knowledge.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

An ideal candidate will also have

  • Experience working on full stack web applications;
  • Experience working with Agile software development;
  • Experience in data management and visualization.
  • Docker expertise

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $100,000 – $120,000. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here .
