General overview

The legal team based in Sri Lanka is part of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) Legal and Compliance team serving LSEG in various facets of law and compliance. Some of the interesting tasks handled by the Sri Lanka based legal team includes contract negotiations for capital market technology agreements, providing managed legal services across LSEG for Non-Disclosure Agreements, drafting/reviewing procurement agreements, attending to company secretarial matters of the different companies within the Sri Lankan entities as well as overseas subsidiaries/branch companies of the Sri Lanka based companies.

Role Responsibilities

– Reviewing contracts under LSEG standard templates as well as third party service provider/customer templates to identify and analyze areas of critical legal importance, especially under English contract law.

– Ability and willingness to assist/co-ordinate contract negotiations with local as well as international service providers/customers with supervision from senior colleagues.

–  Handles less complex and well-defined matters independently, with regular review by more senior colleagues.

–  Familiarity with the key elements of a contract under English contract law with the ability to draft/review non-disclosure agreements, confidentiality undertakings, procurement agreements.

–  With supervision from qualified lawyers, provides basic legal advice and supports colleagues on relevant matters.

–  Undertaking legal, technical and administrative tasks including co-ordination with external service providers and internal group stakeholders for areas such as company secretarial tasks, record keeping and index management of documents.

– Identify, advises and discusses, with internal stakeholders, the legal implications of business decisions with the support of more senior colleagues.

– Drafts moderately complex legal documents/letters as instructed by senior colleagues.

– Ability and enthusiasm to learn new areas/concepts of contract law/ IT law that are of importance to the job role performed, in order to identify the potential impact on LSEG.

– Builds and maintains up-to-date knowledge of the LSEG policies and procedures, current legislation and case law that impacts LSEG.

Minimum Requirements

– A degree in Bachelor of Law (LL. B) from a reputed university and/or Attorney-at Law.

– Demonstrable prior work experience in the areas of reviewing contracts, non-disclosure agreements, procurement agreements.

– ability to identify priorities/work based on guidance/directions and co-ordinate work with multiple stakeholders both internal and external.

–  An excellent command in both written and spoken English with the ability to explain his/herself with clarity.

– Desired candidate should have the required interpersonal skills with the ability to work collectively as part of a team as well as play the role of an individual contributor where required.
– Ability to take responsibility, follow-up and co-ordinate a given task taking into account certain important factors.

– Excellent planning, organizational, analytical and decision-making skills especially using standard technical tools/applications such as Microsoft office, outlook, excel, powerpoint.

– Sound administrative and time management skills, with sharp attention to detail while managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
