The Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance (FDEF) of the University of Luxembourg has an opening for an Associate Professor (Promotion Track) in Cyber Policy.

Your Role…

To meet Luxembourg’s need for qualified individuals with a comprehensive understanding of the societal impacts of Cyber Policy, UNILU is recruiting an associate professor (promotion track) for the endowed Chair in Cyber Policy. The selected candidate is expected to provide critical scholarship related to the expansion of network technologies and digitalization, and the concurrent exposure of society to the risks and opportunities connected with the broad use of these technologies. In addition, there is an expectation to develop cross-cutting and interdisciplinary research on the legal and political context of cyberspace.

The selected candidate shall partake in the education activities of the Faculty, providing reliable, high quality teaching capacity at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. This comprises courses in the Bachelor in Law, the Master in Space, Communication and Media Law, the Interdisciplinary Space Master, as well as guidance and supervision of PhD candidates.  In view of developing a dedicated educational offer in cyber policy, the candidate should be able to cover course content on several of the following themes: cyber threats and responses; geopolitical and transnational aspects of cyber-regulation; digital technologies and international security; geopolitical consequences of internet standard setting; international and national security; cyber defence and deterrence; EEAS Cyber; role of states, organisations, companies, and individuals in cyberspace; cybercapacity building in the EU; human rights, civil liberties and data protection, impact of AI and other emerging technologies on human rights.

The selected candidate will be appointed chairholder for the Chair in Cyber Policy and will lead the chair’s research team comprising a post-doctoral researcher, a PhD candidate and a research and development specialist.

 

Qualifications…

  • Bachelor and Master degrees in law or equivalent degree in law, and a PhD in law or political science with a special focus on new technologies, their societal impact and regulation
  • A research focus and agenda on the legal framework and policy context of cyberspace in Luxembourg and abroad with evidence of a potential to publish in international, high-ranked legal journals
  • Established communication and teaching skills, with a commitment to the importance of scholarship, high-quality education and cultural diversity
  • Experience in working in international research teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders, actively engage with industry and the community, acquire funding and develop externally funded research programmes, collaborate with regulatory agencies and standard setters
  • The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and either French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other language and provides access to language courses to this end
