At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, one or more PhD stipends are available within the Computer Science study program. The stipends are open for appointment at the earliest from February 1, 2022 or soon thereafter.The Department of Computer Science features a broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, as well as traditional university education, with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for one or more PhD students in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), that will be part of the Human-Centered Computing group’s activities within Human-Centered AI and Collaborative AI. The stipends are supported by DIREC (Digital Research Centre Denmark).

The stipends cover research on interaction with swarms of drones and robots, and involves cases on search and rescue multi-drone interaction and agricultural multi-robot interaction. The project will involve the design and evaluation of digital prototypes in order to explore different interaction techniques to support end-users in controlling, navigating, and communicating with multi-drone or multi-robot systems. The project will involve requirements gathering from end-users and other stakeholders and evaluation of the developed prototypes through lab-based and in-situ studies. These user studies should integrate different techniques such as analysis of performance data, interviews and/or observations. The research will contribute by bridging academic research with companies currently developing solutions using drone or robot swarms.

Requirements: 
The applicants must have a master’s degree in interaction design, software engineering, computer science, or closely related fields with very good grades. The applicants must have the required technical skills to develop prototypes as well as an excellent understanding of interaction design. Outstanding communication skills are essential. Prior experience with AI development and conducting user studies is desirable.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master’s degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
