Posting Summary
The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences, in collaboration with PIs in various other departments is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct specialized research on a collaborative project on the origin, evolution and construction of proteins that transfer electrons (i.e., oxidoreductases). It is expected that you have expertise in several of the following areas including bioinformatics, bioinorganic chemistry, structural biology, microbial genomics, biogeochemistry, molecular evolution, and synthetic organic chemistry that will allow the design of interdisciplinary experiments to test origins of life questions. The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation necessary for conduct of the project. It is expected that research will lead to publications and the Postdoctoral Associates will be expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The Postdoctoral Associate will also be expected to be highly collaborative and train and mentor undergraduates in scientific research projects.
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates must have completed a doctoral (Ph.D.) level program in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field. Ph.D Candidates prior to the start of appointment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: bioinorganic chemistry, structural biology, microbial genomics, biogeochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular evolution, and synthetic organic chemistry. The candidates are expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
Prior experience with EPR and NMR spectroscopies strongly preferred. Previous mentoring experience is desirable.

Computer data input required. Ability to use computing resources and perform bench-laboratory experiments.
Laboratory environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
