The research unit Declarative Languages and Artificial Intelligence of KU Leuven’s Department of Computer Science hosts about a hundred researchers, and is led by a dozen professors. It has an excellent international reputation in the area of machine learning, and knowledge representation and reasoning. It is also a part of the interdisciplinary Leuven.AI institute. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Hendrik Blockeel and Dr. Wannes Meert.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct and supervise fundamental research with high relevance to society and industry, with a focus on methods that integrate machine learning and automated reasoning. They will also be actively involved in one or more real-world use cases in the “Flanders AI Research Program”, an initiative that focuses on fundamental research with a clear industrial and societal relevance, and that has explicit links to Industry 4.0, health technologies, sustainable energy production, and more.

Profile

Candidates should have a PhD in computer science, with specific expertise in artificial intelligence.  They should have a strong track record of academic publications (quality is more important than quantity). Junior candidates with an international orientation and members of minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

 

Offer

A fulltime position as postdoctoral researcher is offered, initially for 1 year but extensible to 3 years. Part-time employment is negotiable.
