A Project Officer position is available in the laboratory of Prof Peter Preiser, School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The project will focus on elucidating the signaling events in the erythrocyte during Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium knowlesi merozoite invasion. Notably, the study aims to examine the conservation of signaling pathways in erythrocytes between the invasion processes of P. falciparum and P. knowlesi. This involves the functional validation of conserved host signaling proteins and quantification of intracellular signaling, using a range of biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques.

 

Job Description:

  • Design and perform experiments to elucidating the signaling events in the erythrocyte during Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium knowlesi merozoite invasion
  • Review relevant literature
  • Document and analyse experimental results clearly and thoroughly and present work progress to lab members
  • Carry out administrative duties including but not limited to purchasing of lab consumables, keeping risk assessment, budget records and other documents up to date
  • Support other day to day activities as needed

 

Job Requirements:

  • Good BSc (Hons) degree in biological sciences or related areas, with focus on cell / molecular biology
  • Some experience in Plasmodium research would be helpful
  • Experience in biochemical, cellular and molecular biology methods, such as ELISA, fluorescent microscopy, plasmid cloning and western blotting are a plus
  • Prior experience in aseptic cell culture maintenance is necessary
  • Highly motivated person who is able to work independently
  • Good communication skills & team player
