Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant in the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab aims to identify the cell-intrinsic mechanism and extracellular factors that hasten muscle function and mass during aging. We utilize genetically modified mouse models and to pinpoint the crucial effectors of muscle growth signaling pathways that could potentially be targeted for therapeutic intervention in elderly suffers from sarcopenia.

Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

We seek a detail-orientated and self-motivated research associate to join our team. The appointee will be a research assistant working closely with a multi-disciplinary team including research scholars and research fellows in the field of aging.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who will be actively involved in performing experiment with rodent models, primary cell culture and basic molecular analysis including PCR, gel electrophoresis. The RA will be closely working with research scholars and research fellows. He/she will be required to assist with any other duties as delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree with experience working within research environments, with firm command of all laboratory setup, planning, research, and reporting protocols.

Other requirements:

  • Candidate must have basic molecular analysis skill including Polymerase Chain Reaction and gel electrophoresis.
  • Candidate must not be afraid of working with mice as he/she are expected to work with and handle laboratory mice daily.
  • Experience in rodent models, primary cell culture, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, sectioning, and microscopy would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills in English would be a plus.
