Research Associate (Engineering)

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERIAN) invites applications for the position of Research Associate.
You will be part of a dynamic research team working on Smart and Sustainable Building Technologies (SSBT). The SSBT team focuses on building energy modelling and simulation, decarbonization strategies for the built environment and R&D of green building technologies such as HVAC systems, lighting systems, building management systems and other novel solutions for the urban built environment sector. This position is to recruit a member of the core research team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. You will need to actively support SSBT projects at ERI@N in terms of project R&D, technology evaluation & consultancy, project coordination, and customer interfacing.
2. The role will include the following:
- Participate in SSBT projects involving industry partners, government agencies and/or external collaborators.
- Perform technical analysis and research on decarbonization strategies for new and existing buildings, repurposing of buildings and/or construction related methods.
- Perform modelling and simulation of building energy systems and/or BIM modelling.
- Carry out technical assessment of green building solutions aligned with BCA Green Mark criteria.
- Coordinate regular project reporting/meetings and prepare project technical reports for industry and/or government agency clients/stakeholders.
3. You will be an integral part of the SSBT team and will need to lead or participate in project discussions especially related to project implementation details.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor or Master degree in engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Clean/Renewable Energy, Building or IT related).
- Experience in embodied/operational/whole life carbon assessment, BCA Green Mark/ LEED certification, Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD, BIM modelling and/or Energy Plus/IESVE (min 5yrs preferred)
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Should be a very hands-on person, willing to take on non-routine tasks.
- Possess good communication (written and verbal) skills. Able to manage multiple stakeholders and work under tight timelines.
- Positive attitude, ability to work independently as well as in a team.\
- Familiarity with embodied carbon, operational carbon, whole-life carbon and net zero assessment for built environment applications is preferred. Demonstrated project experience in life-cycle assessment, circular economy, building/construction codes and/or relevant standards e.g. ISO/ASHRAE are advantageous.
