Job Overview

Research Engineer, Origami-based deployable antenna

Engineering Research: Definition, Examples

Job Description

This position involves working on a project related to a deployable parabolic antenna. The project aims to develop an origami structure for the parabolic antenna to enable it to fold into a small volume to save storage, delivery, and launching costs. To convert the conventional static parabolic antenna to a deployable and reconfigurable structure, we will investigate an existing folding pattern or design new folding patterns. The main research tasks for the project include but will not be limited to:

  • Design the origami folding pattern and physical prototype with consideration of sheet thickness.
  • Model the kinematics of the origami structure and investigate the actuation mechanism
  • Fabricate a prototype using composite materials and conduct deployable test
  • Write papers and present work at top-tier local or international conferences or workshops.

Qualifications

  • BEng/BSc/MEng/MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Deployable structures, Robotics, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in developing deployable structures and kinematics modeling
  • Proficiency with Solidworks, Matlab, Abaqus, or other related tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good teamwork abilities, self-motivation, and self-reflection.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both in oral and written form.
