Research Fellow (Carbohydrate Microbiome Research)

The Qiao lab in CBC SPMS NTU (www.yqiaolab.com) is currently looking for a talented and highly motivated organic chemist (Research Fellow) to perform carbohydrate and peptidomimetic chemical probe synthesis. We are developing chemical strategies to profile and understand the signaling molecules that bacteria use to communicate with host cells, and to determine their involvement and contributions in diseases. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary team of investigators and have access to state-of-art research facilities.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and perform multi-step chemical synthesis carbohydrate and peptide-based natural products and chemical probes

• Develop in vitro biochemical assays using synthetic probes to study host recognition process of microbiota-derived metabolites

Job Requirements

• A recent PhD graduate with expertise in organic chemistry, natural product synthesis, chemical biology or related field

• Must have research experience with multi-step synthesis with good techniques to handle air- and moisture-sensitive reactions. Prior experience in natural product synthesis, carbohydrate/peptidomimetic synthesis are preferred

• Demonstrate strong publication track-record, as evidenced by at least first-author publication in high quality journals

• Must have strong organizational, critical thinking, interpersonal skills

• Must be highly-motivated and independent and be able to supervise students
