Research Fellow (Microbial Fermentation) – SL5

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project where you will be part of the research team to perform fermentation for food ingredients. Specifically, this entails two phases of development

1. Fermentation design and operation for high product titre
2. Product extraction and analysis
3. Bioreactor design and scale up

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in and manage the research project with both project PIs and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Undertake these responsibilities in the project:

• 1. Communicate research outcomes through technical reports and presentations
  2. Contribute actively in research group meetings
  3. Mentor junior research engineers and undergraduate students in similar area of research
• Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements:

• Have at least two-year experience in microbial fermentation, protein purification and characterization.
• Have a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering / Biomedical Engineering / Biochemistry.
• Knowledge of analytical instruments for protein and metabolite analysis such as HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS and  analytical software such as Matlab and Origin would be advantageous.
