Job Overview

Research Fellow

Research Fellow, CAR-T Engineering, iHealthtech, Opportunity at NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE, Singapore. - Exploreture
Duties and Responsibilities
We are excited to announce a 2 year, EPSRC funded project to develop a new platform for Augmented Reality (AR) endonasal surgery, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our vision is to develop an AR system that is more accurate than current methods, that automatically adapts to the surgical scene and is designed from the ground up to be easier to use in the operating theatre. We are looking to hire an outstanding researcher to join a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and engineers at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) at University College London (UCL).

We need expertise in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Vision, AI and AR to bring this vision to life, and deliver a clinical prototype. The HCI role will advance research in HCI in this challenging context, working with novel technologies. It will include establishing how clinicians think about the procedure, what information they need to inform decisions and guide actions across different phases, where their visual attention is, and what information is critical at any moment, as well as prototyping and testing systems that convey appropriate trust and minimise risks.

Main duties and responsibilities include designing and conducting studies of user needs and practices, and to prototype user interfaces for AI and imaging systems that support clinical interventions and working with team members on full system implementation, preparing systems for clinical trials.

This post is funded for 2 years  in the first instance.
Key Requirements
A Ph.D. (or in submission of a Ph.D.) in a relevant subject (e.g. a Health Science or Human-Computer Interaction), or equivalent experience. Ability to apply HCI research methods, including user research, prototyping and testing “in the wild”. Commitment to high quality research, ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team.
