Health and Safety for Directors and Senior Managers | British Safety Council

Office of Health, Safety and Emergency (OHSE) seeks to mitigate health and safety hazards in NTU and endeavours to provide a safe and secure campus for the University community. OHSE consists of three units, Health and Safety Unit, Campus Security Unit and Emergency Planning and Coordination Unit.

 

OHSE is looking for a candidate with prior experience to manage the provision of an efficient and high quality Occupational Health & Safety services for University staff and student. To ensure compliance with responsibilities imposed by health and safety legislation, whilst maximising and promoting the health and safety for all employees and student, as well as reducing the risk of cases of occupational incident and ill health developing. To champion best practice in occupational safety and health provision within the University.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of workplace safety management system in the offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes.
  • Provide advice to management, staff and students on workplace safety and health issues and ways to minimise or eliminate risks and hazards.
  • Develop safety related policy and standard operating procedures on either electrical / chemical / radiation  hazard for school or at university level
  • Conduct audits and inspections of offices, research laboratories and their supporting facilities
  • Conduct investigations for accidents and incidents that takes place in offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes with the safety committee members
  • Conduct safety training on offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes for staff and students.
  • Facilitate the application of licenses and liaise with the relevant authority for license / permit issues.
  • Providing administrative support to the offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes on Health & Safety Matter.
  • Liaising with governmental bodies and regulatory agencies.
  • Presenting health and safety reports at Executive meetings.
  • Educating new employees on the company’s emergency evacuation procedures
  • Keeping up to date and ensuring with current health and safety legalisation
  • Establishing occupational health and safety management programs in the offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes.
  • Developing emergency response plans.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned by supervisor

 

 

Requirements

 

  • A recognized Degree in Chemistry or Electrical Engineering or Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Experience in workplace safety in offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes
  • Knowledge on either electrical / chemical / radiation hazard is a must.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in Safety Management and preference will be given to those with relevant safety experience in the Institute of Higher Learning.
  • Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) would be advantageous.
