Role/About this job

Around here we’re all “numbers” people, but it’s the 1s and 0s behind our data that make what we do possible. Software engineers strike a balance between precision and disruption, between reliability and innovation. Nielsen is a tech company powering a better media future for all people — and we couldn’t do it without our engineers.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for our team in Munich, Germany. You will be working on the automation of processes, which help Nielsen clients to understand and make decisions on advertising campaigns across digital, mobile, TV, radio, print and cross-platform media.

You will be handling international marketing data and providing interfaces to prestigious external- and internal clients.

In a cloud based and automated environment, you create or enhance software services. Close communication with product management ensures data quality and alignment on expectations.

Common design patterns and industry standards are second nature to you. Developing complex applications? You’re up for that, too. You’ve honed your tech skills alongside your people skills and can clearly communicate technical concepts in a way that makes sense to anyone. You’re ready to put your experience to work and take ownership of projects on a global scale, without a lot of guidance—after all, you’re fluent in a few programming languages. You have the vision to strategize for the next generation of back-end services and processing engines that will drive tomorrow. You’ll power a better media future.

Diversity in terms of personal backgrounds, perspectives and experiences is very important to Nielsen. We would like to welcome you to a team with software developers of different origins, ages, religions and beliefs, as well as a female team lead. Diversity and commitment in the field of careers, but also in social projects, are not just empty buzzwords for Nielsen, but are actively promoted in various initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, concise, maintainable code and tests

  • Actively participate in team code reviews and enforce quality standards

  • Drive innovation and automation at every step, from coding to deployment

  • Promote and implement best practices in development and operations

  • Collaborate with product and other engineering teams

Desired experience/background and skills

  • 4-6 years of hands-on software development

  • The training to back your work: a master’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or, as we recognize there isn’t one formula for success, equivalent work experience

  • Software Engineering Experience with Java and SQL; experience with Python and RESTful APIs

  • Serverless application development in Amazon Web Services cloud (ideally familiar with more functionalities of the Amazon Web Services ecosystem)

  • Fluency in spoken and written English, and optionally fluency or strong command of German (spoken and written)

What can we offer you as an employee of Nielsen Media

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a varied area of responsibility and an open corporate culture with many development opportunities. Above all, our employees appreciate the ability to work independently in a motivated and very friendly team. Social responsibility, open communication and living our values are not only on our website but also in our daily work.
