Sr BI Developer – (Remote USA)

BI Developer Role Explained: Skills & Responsibilities | NCube

DESCRIPTION

As a Sr. BI Engineer your focus will be on designing and building dashboards, and creating automated reports. You will be working with data from different data warehouses and our central Data Lake. This regards a broad spectrum of marketing data such as panel data, survey data and behavioural data. We use this data to support our clients, like helping social media companies to determine the effectiveness of advertisements on their platform; or helping brand owners to understand the health of their brands.

ABOUT THE JOB

You process data, write expressions, and create and maintain dashboards for clients. For example, a media owner is interested in the viewers of a certain TV show after airing a campaign. The dashboard you create provides the client with detailed insights in the collected viewing data to measure their marketing efforts. You understand both the data as well as the client perspective, therefore you play a key role between the tech team and the business unit.

Currently we are using a QlikSense platform. However, as BI is a rapidly developing industry we are looking for someone who is open to further exploring open source alternatives like Superset.

Another part of the job is helping us to further improve our BI platform by adding new functionalities, taking care of performance management and dealing with scalability challenges. You will be working closely with our platform provider and third-party feature developers, but also with the ETL engineers in the team on API based connections and automation opportunities. Further an important aspect is coaching your BI engineer colleagues and doing code reviews.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills in different areas like business Intelligence, automated data processing and working with Big Data. We have an open culture and an Agile working style.

YOUR TEAM

  • We are a small dynamic team that is motivated and eager to learn about and implement smart BI, reporting and ETL solutions and ship new capabilities aggressively.
  • We work in multi-disciplinary teams and work directly with product owners, data engineers, application engineers, research analysts, and designers to build the best possible dashboards.

YOUR PROFILE

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics, Computer Science, or a related study
  • 4+ years of business intelligence, data visualization, consulting, or data engineering experience
  • Experience with Business Intelligence concepts and patterns (Dashboards, Analytics, Predictive Analytics, Metadata)
  • Extensive experience with data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, Domo, etc.
  • Install/Configure and maintain BI platforms (Tableau, Qlik, Cognos) for periodic upgrades, maintenance and backup/restore tasks.
  • Stay current on emerging business intelligence, data visualization tools, and technology to properly advise team members.
  • Define requirements, develop, test, optimize and deploy solutions that integrate and structure data for reporting
  • History of working tightly with UX designers in delivering useful, pleasant, and accessible product experiences
  • Experience with front-end design and Visualization best practices
  • Knowledge of Python is an advantage; Advanced SQL experience is preferred.
  • Experience styling user interfaces with modern CSS techniques
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Familiarity with CI tooling
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Manage & organize work through Jira, participate in sprint planning and scrums to execute Business Intelligence development backlog
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including listening.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work independently
